I SAW MAKOTO SHINKAI YESTERDAY AND IT WAS AWESOME!!! :D
For those who don't know who I'm on about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Makoto_Shinkai
Anyway, we went to London to see 5 Centimetres per Second and Shinkai himself was there too, giving an interview and signing DVDs and Artbooks afterwards. Before we went in to see the film, I bought the Artbook, since I've wanted that artbook for months but it was sold out wherever I looked, so I'd finally got it ♥
Anyway, we saw the film, and it was beautiful
. I highly recommend everyone to check it out if they can, because it was possibly the most wonderful, meaningful film I've seen this year. The lyrics to the ending song was heartbreaking, and the artwork was just GORGEOUS. Seeing it on the big screen was fantastic. I'm so glad I saw that film. (Especially when they said that the DVD might not be released in the UK for at least a year! O.o)
Then there was an interview, which had me kicking myself because they ask the audience if the had any questions. I didn't have any, and had I been intelligent enough to realise they would ask the audience for questions, I would've asked the makoto_shinkai
community if they had any -_-; It was quite an interesting interview, with a very nervous interpreter, an equally nervous Shinkai and a pretencious interviewer who asked "Are you thinking of making your films more accessable to a western audience?" which made my Mum seeth with anger (she's strongly against the westernisation of films and media).
Then the signing! Luckily we were fifth in the queue (out of about one hundred!) and I suddenly became really nervous. I was about to meet one of my favourite directors, no wonder I was nervous! My mum went first with the DVD, and she told Shinkai not to worry about the western audience, and he looked really delighted! (He was very polite and a really nice person). Then it was my turn. He was very chatty, asking if I was from London, etc. I went bright red all the way through the conversation (of course!) and told him that I related really well to his characters, and that I'd come from across the country to see him XD. Then with lots of nervous bowing, I left the signing.
Then we all ate chips! ^^
Anyway, it was a fantastic day. I'm so glad I saw '5 Centimetres' in the cinema, and I'm so glad I got to meet Mr Shinkai himself! Now the artbook (complete with signature and a cat doodle!) sits proudly on my shelf! All I can say is, hurry up with that DVD release, ADV!!
